About Msinsi Reserve

In 1993 the University Council declared Msinsi Reserve to be a nature reserve in perpetuity. This Reserve comprises seven hectares of grassland and regenerating forest. A considerable impact has been made on the removal of invasive aliens from the Msinsi Reserve. Some of the more frequent invasive alien plants were Lantana and Cardiospermum (Balloon Vine).

A bird list in excess of 100 species has been drawn up. Records of sightings are forwarded to Ron Uken or Rob Jamieson. Mongooses are frequently spotted and a blue duiker was recently observed.

For more details about visiting the reserve, contact Prof. Ron Uken (uken@ukzn.ac.za) on (031) 260 1613.
